NICE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WELCOMES INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS

Nice University Hospital wants to guarantee a high standard of reception and medical care, while respecting the principles of public service to which the establishment is committed. As a result, Nice University Hospital guarantees for foreign patients the same quality of welcome and care as French residents.

Nice University Hospital has a long tradition of welcoming international patients for specialised medical care, thanks to its reputation and its geographical position, on the French Riviera open to the Mediterranean Sea. In order to create the best conditions as possible for non-resident international patients, we have established a specific identified reception system.

How to become a patient at Nice University Hospital?

If you are a non-resident in France and willing to be cared treated at the Nice University Hospital, please follow the below instructions.

Before your stay: requesting and booking an appointment

An expert team carries out the preparation of your stay at Nice University Hospital.

You must send your administrative and medical details directly to the secure messaging system of the department concerned.

The required documents differ according to your situation:

This page for non-resident patients does not apply to you. You can make an appointment in the same way as any other resident with social security cover in France, whatever your nationality is.

Please submit the European “Rights to scheduled care” S2 form provided by your health insurance, and the signed quote.

You will also need your valid passport or civil ID as well as your European Health Insurance Card and a proof of residency.

It is your responsibility or the one of the entity covering your medical expenses to send us the following documents:

  • Photocopy of your identity card or passport and additional personal details: date and place of birth, address abroad and in France (if you have one), email address and telephone number.
  • Mandatory: Recent medical report summarizing the history of the disease, the general condition of the patient, past treatments and treatments currently received and any other relevant information
  • If applicable: operative medical report, report of hospitalization, histological report, report of medical imaging
  • Recent biological and pathological reports

Please note that medical expenses will be at your own expense and need to be paid before you arrive to the hospital.

Please send us the following documents:

For non-resident patients, following a review of your file and, if necessary, a teleconsultation, the medical team will propose a protocol for treatment at Nice University Hospital. With this agreement, and if all the information requested has been sent, the establishment will provide you within 2 days with a quote including the medical procedures as well as the possible options and services. This quote is based on the information you have provided, but may change depending on the outcome of your treatment.

If you accept the quotation, it must be accompanied with the full payment of the indicated amount.

There is a charge for consultations, outpatient treatment (blood tests, imaging, etc.) and stays (hospitalisation) at Nice University Hospital.

Costs may be covered by insurance, but must be paid in full before you are admitted.

Make sure you take the necessary steps with the admissions offices (contact details below). If you still owe a sum to the Nice University Hospital., you must pay it as soon as possible to the admissions office, and do so before you come.

If you receive a bill, a « notice of sums payable », at your home address or by email:

If you fail to pay within 30 days, the “Trésorerie de Nice – Centre Hospitalier “ will have to to take legal action against you.

 

  • If the stay initially scheduled for in the quote is cut short, the excess amount paid will be reimbursed by the “Tresorerie de Nice – centre hospitalier” by bank transfer (IBAN to be provided).

Once the payment has been confirmed, you will be given a date for admission as soon as possible, together with any special precautions to be observed and followed before you are admitted. The medical team and the administrative departments dedicated to you are always available to help if you need anything.

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD), all these exchanges comply with confidentiality rules.

During your stay

When you arrive at the hospital, you must go to the Admissions Office so that the administrative formalities relating to your medical care can be carried out by our staff. You will then be directed to the department responsible for your treatment.

When you arrive, the medical and nursing team will welcome you and guide you to your room. Subject to availability, you may be offered a single room with sanitary and shower, the possibility to host an accompanying person, a telephone, Wi-Fi access and TV with a wide range of international channels.

Throughout your stay, and in accordance with the Hospitalised Patients’ Charter, the team will do everything in its power to ensure that you receive high-quality medical care and attention. In particular, you will be given clear and comprehensible information about your medical care and the terms and conditions of your hospitalisation. This will enable you to give your informed consent and participate in your treatment.

If necessary, you may request the assistance of an interpreter provided by Nice University Hospital in accordance with the procedures in force.  The interpreter will be called by the medical service. In addition, if the in-house interpreter is unavailable, Nice University Hospital can offer patients the services of ISM Interprétariat, a company that provides online interpreters in 185 languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Visits of relatives are authorized within the limit of one visitor per day and per patient subject to compliance with barrier gestures and social distancing measures.

Visits are authorized at the times indicated in the service. The doctor can authorize exceptions.

Good medical care also means respecting patients and their beliefs, without this hindering the organisation of treatment. To this end, Nice University Hospital provides a chaplaincy service and multi-faith and meditation areas on its main hospital sites. At the end of your stay

At the end of your stay, your discharge will be coordinated between the medical team, for post-hospital follow-up, and the administrative team (invoices, insurance certificate, etc.).

To ensure continuity of medical care, you will be given your liaison letter (full medical report). It is important that you do not hesitate to inform the team of any questions you may have before leaving Nice University Hospital.
